Once a 'Reluctant Curate's wife', I am now a Rookie Rector's wife.
The Rector and I are embarking on our new adventure in the beautiful county of Dorset. There will be much to learn, much to explore and much to laugh about as we settle into the new parish.

Back Home!
I know - I'm not allowed to say that I am back home because we have moved to Dorset but we still have our house in South Devon. So here we are and it's good to be back for a week of R and R.
It's the disapproving looks I get from some people who appear to think I am not trying hard enough to settle in Dorset. I am growing to like the rectory - the garden is a wonderful challenge and I am having a pretty good life there but people see us running back to Devon on our days off. I don't think they realise how like ' living in a goldfish bowl' it is.
In that case the only thing is not to tell anyone where you're going, but just to go. I followed a vicar who hadn't spent a night out of the parish in 15 years! It was a struggle at first to get some people to recognise that I was entitled to time away, but they got the message eventually. :-) Your time off is YOUR time and nothing to do with anyone else and they really do have to learn this lesson. Good luck.
Have a great week! It's important to have a bolt hole. Jx
ReplyDeleteThank you - it was good to be back!
DeleteI'm sure you will enjoy your time in Devon! I hope you go back to Dorset refreshed.
ReplyDeletethank you - we have!
DeleteWhy can't you say it? I loved living in the vicarage, but our house was always home and we eventually retired back there. Have a great week.
